Level-Up Your Cybersecurity Awareness -- Beyond Just This Month
Halloween marks the last day of Cybersecurity Awareness Month. Unfortunately, there are infinitely more tricks than treats in cybersecurity. This year’s campaign theme is “See Yourself in Cyber” -- CISA’s effort to focus on the “people'' part of cybersecurity. They highlight four things that everyone can do to be part of the solution: recognize and report phishing, update software, use strong passwords, and enable multi-factor authentication. Here at QWERX, we are fully onboard with these recommended action steps for individuals. But we also know that this type of “cyber hygiene” is nowhere near enough to protect against adversaries.
Today’s computing environment is dynamic and fast-moving. Every day organizations are attacked by high-performance, automated machines that have long outpaced the protective measures we’ve built around outdated security infrastructure. These breaches can be devastating in so many ways, detailed in the constant stream of reports on the latest attacks. Cyberattacks have become such a common occurrence that there are entire news outlets and publications dedicated to covering all the ways that cyber protections have failed, and the repercussions suffered by the victims. If cyber hygiene was the key to stopping cyberattacks, wouldn’t we be there by now?
Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different outcome is one definition of insanity. Instead of doubling down on the same failed prescriptions directed at individual behavior, we need a new cybersecurity approach. QWERX has developed a next-gen solution that will eliminate external attacks. Want to know more? Give us a shout.
